• Mystic ready for prime time?

From Poindexter Fortran@46:1/115 to All on Thu Jul 20 00:04:00 2017
    All,

I'm testing out Mystic on a VPS to replace my current
Synchronet/Windows system. I'm looking for an all-in-one solution for
the BBS, web, mailer and Tick processing.

I'm a Fidonet regional hub, regional hub for an othernet,a node in 2
other nets and and have a bunch of downlinks polling for echomail and
    file echoes.

Are the mailer and tick processor up to the task of supporting a hub
carrying a decent amount of traffic?

Most definitely as far as I can tell.

imho, i don't think they are quite ready for that task yet. again,
    that's imho. ymmv, of course.

When is the last time you took a look at the latest Mystic versions (ie: _not_ 1.05 or 1.07)? It's by far ready for anything you want to throw at it. FSXNet has almost 100 nodes and the hub is a Mystic system (Paul Hayton), who also is a RC for Fidonet, so you can add those links as well.

By now it easily surpasses some of the stuff out there already.

    Nick

The last version of Mystic that is current was 2 or 3 versions back.
As far as surpassing other applications, that is a matter of opinion.

Not exactly sure what you mean by this. The latest version of Mystic (1.12A34) seems to work just fine, and all bugs that were brought up in the few recent versions before that have been fixed.

Unless you're referring to the last actual *release* which is 1.11?

As far as surpassing other applications, that is a matter of opinion.

For example, Mystic has a "feature" to work around Irex's broken binkp implementation. It also has a "feature" to work around Argus's (and possibly the other two if they contain the same bugs) broken CRAM-MD5 authentication.

I'd have to say that's surpassing at some point or another, but .. YMMV.

hi, didn't make the connection between your handle and your real name - I dropped you an email on your BBS; I'm considering switching from SBBS on Windows at home to Mystic on a Linux VPS and looking for experiences with Mystic's areafix/filefix/tick/hatch and mailer.

    Cheers,

You may want to contact the person who runs FSXnet. Its the largest of the networks Mystic powers - I think he has over a 120 downlinks powered by Mystic on his single hub, although he might have recently split it up to more than just the main hub.

He should be able to give you some insight on his experiences as its been powered by Mystic since it was created.

There are also 3 or 4 other networks that I know are powered by Mystic but FSX is the largest/most active.

:) No probs, I did reply there so perhaps rather than retype my reply again could I ask you check there first and then happy to answer any follow up you may have :)

Will do. Thanks for the pointer! I'm having a lot of fun playing around with Mystic and am looking forward to running it with my networks.
