    |Conference rules for the INTERNET echo: rev. 29 May 14 |Posting Frequency: 1st of the month.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    1. This echo is devoted to discussion about the internet. The goal
of this echo is quality, not quantity.

    2. Moderating handled by the echo Moderator, who is Mark Lewis
    (1:3634/12).

    3. Handles/aliases ARE NOT permitted.

    4. English is considered the primary language of this echo.

    5. DO NOT post any offensive language or statements - NO PROFANITY.

    6. Keep all your messages on topic. If someone else posts an offtopic
message, send netmail to the individual, to the moderator, or
simply ignore it. Responses in the echo to offtopic messages are
    never justified.

    What is typically off-topic:
    * Anything not-related to the internet :).
    * Test messages, BBS ads, and new system connection messages.

    7. Keep your posting concise. Quote as required to establish context,
but keep it within reason. Origin, seenby and similar overhead
lines should never be quoted. The reason is it adds money for
(bigger mail packets) those getting this echo on a Long Distance
    basis.

    8. It's fine to express disagreement with an on-topic statement, but
insults, attacks, name-calling and the like are not tolerated.
Basically NO FLAMES or personal attacks.

    9. Failure to comply on a regular basis with these rules will result
in the system being disconnected from the echo feed.

It sounds like this post was intended for a FidoNet echo. I saw this message in the Dove-Net Internet message area - Was that intentional? As far as I have been aware, handles/aliases have always been allowed here, etc..

It looks like someone is accidentally gating this (and other) DOVE-Net conferences with FidoNet echoes with similar "names".

    I was wondering about that.

that's one of the reasons why i keep all my datafiles in separate directories and try to keep everything separate. and also when i make a change, i check it
out so i dont pull a robert wolfe and flood everyone with dupe msgs. ---

That and making sure all of Synchronet's internal codes are unique. I added prefixes to all my message groups to help ensure the internal codes are unique.
Even if the data files are in separate folders, it's still possible for two message areas to have the same internal code, and I believe that would still cause messages to be duplicated.

i'm pretty sure if they had the same internal code and they were in separate directories, it wouldnt link them because the datefiles are in two separate areas.

i would always have unique codes, though. ---

I believe the internal code is how Synchronet internally keeps track of where a
message should be posted. If 2 different message areas have the same internal
code, I think a message would be posted to both places.

pretty sure in separate dirs it wouldnt work out that way. ---
