Used to goto the cinema quite a bit when I was younger...especially at places where $1 & such was the admission price at 2nd run houses. Out here in Oregon...the last time I went to a physical cinema was that Tom Hanks movie on the Pentagon Papers several years ago. Not sure...but think it was early 2017.

I saw Dunkirk and 1917 on the big screen, and they don't compare at home. Ditto for Gravity.

Totally agree!!! That's 1 great thing about college towns & large cities...they have "art" (not porn) cinemas where adults would be likely to show up. Turner Classic has been having old classics being played in actual cinemas...just like in the day. For some reason I seem to remember they were showing "Smokey & the Bandit" on the big screen recently...along with others in the past. Too bad I have no way of getting the 80 miles to Portland on the scooter or can take off the time from work...since I work Thursday-Sunday every week.

Forgot one of the best ones I would give an arm/leg to see in Imax or another giant format...2001: A Space Odessy. Funny thing about that movie...ended up watching it on my wedding night as I drifted off to sleep after being up since 4 AM...wedding/reception in the afternoon.

There are a ton of art cinemas in San Francisco, the Aquarius in Palo Alto, and the Nickelodeon in Santa Cruz. My bellwether is if they have decent coffee, It's a good call.

Oh, and the Castro Theater - I saw a 70mm print of "Lawrence of Arabia"
there, and I thought they had Bladerunner there recently.

I haven't been to the theatre since early 2000, myself. It became far too expensive after that. It was fine while I was trying to make a good impression on a lady, but it's not worth it now. Not when it costs $30 for a seat, and $10 for bad popcorn.

My home theatre system has definitely paid for itself a hundred times, since then.

Huh. Actually, 1917 was the last movie I watched in the theatre, now that I think about it (because a friend insisted). I didn't have any problem with 'audience interaction', but it wasn't worth the entry fee, either.

I can set my own volume level at home, which is good for me (hearing impaired), and not so good for my neighbour (she's what we call a 'Karen').

And my screen is 46 inches. Because that's enough, at three-foot viewing range, and I don't feel the need to overcompensate. (o_-)

The Da Vinci Code (movie) came out in 2006. That 2017 movie he mentioned must have been something else.

Sound is everything, sir. Well, almost...

A good screen is very important, but size definitely isn't the important part of THAT equation. Because (AMOLED vs OLED?) OLED vs LCD, or LCD vs CRT...But, much more important is the quality of the sound output. High Dynamic Range (HDR) was a sound thing LONG before it was a video thing.

I suppose I would have a different point of view if I was slowly losing my vision, instead of my hearing...but that's not the case.

Too soon, I'll be asking 'Whassat, sonny? I can't quite hear ya.' Hell, I find myself asking that too often NOW!

Just moved the RCA projector to my bedroom...hooked up the Xbox Series S to it...love it. Will eventually hook up some more stuff when I get a chance. When this projector goes out...will be looking for a more costly one than a $50 reconditioned model like the current projector I'm running.

Remember when I was living in Colorado Springs when they released one of the latter Bond movies. Paid to see it in IMAX. Worth every penny. Would also pay to see the two you mentioned in 70 mm...along with some of the other David Lean movies in that format. For that matter...2001 would be the cat's meow.

May I suggest a gaming headset...if you're having problem with the hearing. Myself...use a $15 headset with surround sound with my Xbox's. This way...I play games in the middle of the night. I work swing shift & keep the same sleep schedule as well on my days off from work.

... Old age isn't bad when you consider the alternative.
