From The Leprechaun@25:25/0 to All on Sun Nov 28 11:03:14 2021
    Hi all -

I was thinking of delving into the world of BBS aware development and wanted to create a selector that launches right after the telnet session is established. Basically, instead of having 2 different computers running, I want to try to get my RG and TG systems running on one computer and give the user the chance to choose which one they want to go to.

To that end, what's a good place to start? Should I look at door programming software or something else?

    Thanks!

it was available in Xenia Mailer (and maybe other mailers) a long time ago.

in Xenia you have to set XENBBS.CFG:

    for example:

; Using the RemoteAccess 'shell to mailer' method
; Make sure you specify all possible connect speeds in RA's setup!
;EXTAPP BBS \\ EXIT dummy My RA BBS
;EXTAPP BBS **EMSI_CLIFA8C EXIT dummy My RA BBS (IEMSI Client)

; If you want to have a second BBS application, started by user key AA
; Make sure you tell the user about the keys he can or has to press, either in ; APPTEXT or in the XENIA*.BAN file
;EXTAPP BBS AA SPAWN XENALT My alternative BBS

    Hi all -

I like these solutions, too - and have seen a few solutions over the years. Gosh, there was one by ACiDiC I think - that supported RG and Iniq/2 under DOS... I downloaded it and had a peek, but... I'm not gonna remember what it was called today.

With the newer BBS softwares, Mystic & Synchronet mainly, you can design a system that does exactly what you were describing. I can think of 2 or 3 that are currently up and running today... lemme try to post them:

    sysopsolaris.ddns.net:2323

    wnbbs.duckdns.org :2300

I really like Solaris' because he has all of his systems listed... and then has a nice phonebook, kinda like a terminal directory, with dozens of OTHER BBSes for users to check out... and, he has a file server that he's trying to get spinning up ATM.

Bucko's Wrong Number Matrix, on the other hand, is cool because you can launch in to several different types of BBS software - I know that he runs some in 40 column C=64 mode, but I'm NOT aware if you can use Syncterm and jump around the different resolutions - at any rate, these types of matrixes are awesome - if I ever get more than one BBS cracking off I'd look into this too - but 2o alone seems to keep me stupid busy. :P

    Cheers!!
