I am on vacation this week.....but it sure doesn't feel like it :/
I don't take off from work very much and when I do, it's not really a "vacation", since I'm toiling around the house for the week. Let's do a
recap of what I've gotten done so far, shall we?
Sunday, both generators have been serviced with fresh oil and fuel. They were load tested and run fine. I have an 11 hp, 5700 watt (peak) generator and a smaller 2500 watt generator. Since I was at it, the lawnmower was also
serviced and is in good shape.
Monday, I had been looking for a few of those 55 gallon plastic drums (the
blue ones) for water and fuel storage. Found a guy nearby that had a yard
full of different types. I picked up four of them. Spent the afternoon with the pressure-washer cleaning them out. They had been used for foodstuffs, so they are safe for water storage. I'll use one of them for fuel storage.
Tuesday, I installed the solar system and it's working superbly. I haven't finalized the panel mount yet so they're propped up until I get the
post/mount set up. Charge controller is the PWM type and is rated for 30
amps on a 12 or 24 volt system. The battery is a 100 amp-hour AGM type and
that thing is heavy! Inverter is a VertaMax 1500 watt modified sine wave. It came with enough cable to get started...but there's never enough, so I had to buy more. 120' of 10 gauge stranded copper wire, 60' of red and 60' of black
to make the connections, panels to controller and controller to battery. I
put a temporary LED light in until I can gather up the rest of what I need to light the building up. I think I'm gonna like this :) When I get it finalized, I'll put some pictures up on the Orbit website. I'll link it here.
That's where I'm at so far.
Thanks!
