I've heard good things about DigitalOcean VPS. Their rates seem pretty reasonable, too.

Good to know, thanks. My Linux box already took a dump yesterday and would
not process mail or transfer files, so I already swapped out an old clone backup of mystic 1.12 then did a upgrade version on my only win7 64 machine.

I may be getting a friend to donate me a used machine after I find out how
much the shipping will cost. Hoping to avoid doing the VPS thing until I can make up mu mind on what to do.

Shuz I would be willing to give you my hp prolisnt dl580 g2 server to you if you can find a way to get it to you. it has 4 processors and runs good 2 dvd righters and a floppy drive hot switchable its a monster though i think at 65lbs but I have run 2 bbs on it before has 4 nick cards and 1 local . Its a good machine.

wow 65 pounds sounds like a beast to ship... besides Havok already has
donated a more light weight Lanovo box. I have not heard what the shipping
cost will be yet, or the weight.

I'm hoping to move to VPS, not sure of the state of backup these days. I'd like to keep a backup of the system at home, would love to set up rsync or maybe resilio sync to keep a backup at home.

I have 3 DO VPS now.. I have been very hapy with their service. I like their $10 per month deal for running a BBS.. 1 2.4 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and 50GB of HD Space.. DOSEMU runs OK on the VPS. But a BBS can easily be ran using their $5 a month plan.. I did it for a couple of years, and that was before they enhanced their plans.

I haven't noticed much downtime at all.. but on rare occation there will be some lag.. it all depends on traffic I suppose.. those machines share resources between many clients..
