• Greetings from Tinfoil Tetrahedron BBS!

From Khelair@9:91/11 to All on Fri Feb 13 01:15:00 2015
Hello everyone! Just wanted to say hello, since I've finally (after much ado) gotten my system connected here. I've been working on it for awhile now, and wanted to have my system as a member here for much longer, as survival and prepping is a major focus of my system.
I'm very much looking forward to discussing matters of these sorts with everyone and hearing what you all have to say about the different matters here, also.
Wishing you all the very best!

    Welcome!

Would you believe one of the reasons I switched the BBS back to OS/2 and
am slowly moving my own personal computer back to it, is security through obscurity? Also... the only "cloud" on it is one I created. (The BBS).

Do I think I'm really safer? No... but it will take someone with more knowlegde then wikipedia to get at my information.

    Welcome!

    Thank you. :)

    (The BBS).

I believe it. It's one of the reasons that I operate with OpenBSD, as well. I mean, a major selling point of the operating system is security, but I've got a feeling that they've got so few issues isn't just the amount of code auditing that they handle, but also the obscurity of the operating system.
Cloud sharing is a pretty damn big security hole, too. I was just looking through my google drive contents yesterday and noticing that I made some pretty damn big mistakes, myself. :( Can't fix a mistake like that. If you pull it down for other 'mere mortals', the NSA & Google, at the very least, are certainly always going to have that stuff.

This is true. Most everyone with any hardware they didn't build themselves (and a lot with hardware they did build-- due to infrastructure outside of the home/business) are pwned. I mean the NSA intercepts damn routing hardware and installs auto-updating firmwares at the hardware level when this crap is on the way to the end user. There's not much for a way around that. Plus, it was the late 80s when the information first came out about MIT's AT&T/NSA splice room. This stuff is not new... Just freshly recirculated and updated.
