• HOD Vehicles?

From Tiny@9:91/7 to All on Wed Mar 4 14:44:00 2015
    Hello,

Talking to a mechanic I recently found, he's big on the Hydrogen on demand additions to vehicles. After looking on youtube and watching video's I
started looking into this stuff. Two questions I was asked.
    1) What is gasoline?
    2) What is water?

    1) Hydrocarbons.
    2) 2 parts hydrogen to 1 part oxygeon.

Has anyone done any research on this? I saw the mechanic's generator runnign and I am almost sold on this. He was running filtered tap water. I'll be honest my mouth hung down and I was in shock for about 2 minutes. I couldn't even think straight.

    Is this shit for real!?

    Is this shit for real!?

yes it is. and i can explain a bit how it finaly works. it's possible to mod
a usualy car-engine / generator-engine that it can handle hydrogen.

the main-function of the engine are still based on the otto-engine. a
explosion push the pistons and the engine goes running.

the default otto-motor/engine works with a mix of gasoline and oxygen. this
mix with will be sore by a ignition plug. and nothing other happends in a hydrogen-engine. except that you have another fuel in your combustor.

the main-mods you must made is to make sure your ignition plug is heavy powerful. the hydrogen will explode on a temp about 560 - 600 degree (C).

just let compare that temp with some other sorts of fuel:

    gasoline (95-102ROZ) : 200-300 degree (C)
    diesel fuel : 170 - 390 degree (C)
    hydrogen : 560 - 600 degree (C)

the most engine needs a new software to handle the new sore time periode and much more. hydrogen hase more power but less energy. ok that's sound a bit confusing...

hydrogen engine is about 45% efficent, a otto engine about 38%. the hydrogen explosion is very fast and more powerfull at all. but you need more hydrogen
in the the combustor to reach it. this is because in hydrogen-gas you have
ever a higher oxygen part as you need for the engine.

in fact your engine-power decrease a bit if you use hydrogen.

it's a bit more stuff about diffusion velocity hydrothermal stuff. but i
think it's enough to understand how it's work.

the gas-tank. in your car is a gas-tank with a filler and a vent (to make
sure your gas-tank don't explode, if you where just on a gas-station and fill up to 100%, and than parking in the burning sun. (gasoline under high temp needs more space)

the hydrogen-gas must a closed system. the filler is a highpressure-vent and your gas-tank must handle -253 dregee (C) and 700 bar! pressure.

BMW has a build a car "BMW Hydrogen7" that can handle hydrogen. but after 17 hours the hydrogen in the gas-tank stats to vent-out. that means a half gas-tank of hydrogen can vaporize in 9 days. the storage of hydrogen (if your not produce it on your ride) is very difficult at all.

since a few years in germany the gas-stations starts upgrading that they can offer hydrogen to the costumers.

the bad news is, 90% of the hydrogen manufacturing happend during fossil
fuels. it's mostly natural gas here.

finaly some facts about this engine-concept:

since 1999 on the munich airport the company MAN drives with 3 articulated busses around the area.

also in berlin in 2006 (soccer worldcup) some busses with hydrogen were used
to transport people and player. the vehicles cover a distance over 8.500 km.

after that success on the soccer worldcup they become a regular deployment on the berlin bus-masstransport. 2009 the project was canceled. the fixing costs raise to high.

1999 BMW build the 750hL car. the first concept car with hydrogen engine. it reaches a vmax of 225 km/h from 150kW (204hp).

2006 BMW presents at the los angeles car-show the BMW 760h "Hydrogen 7" car.
as a customer and could lease the car. no buy, only lease (it's like the EV1 story pls google it if you don't know: GM EV1 - a very good e-car from 1996-1999 with many fans but rejected by oil-lobby)

2009 BMW announced to stop building cars with hydrogen engines. that takes no car of the research, so BMW is still on it.

Dude thank you for all of the information about the hydrogen power. This is a lot of stuff to sift through, but I'm very glad for the info. :)

I'm mainly wondering about the HOD systems that are installed into an existing car and used to help offset your gasoline usage. ie: injecting the hydrogen into the carborator with gasoline to use less gasoline.

The video's on youtube seem to show a 33-66% increase in miles to the gallon of gasoline.

BUt thanks for the other great information! Very informative read!

like a hybrid engine but in one way without two seperate engines. that's possible because of the high temp during the gasoline explosion. thats enough heat to bringt the hydrogen to react, and explode. and as i described in the last post, the hydrogen ist very powerfull. so it makes sense to mix both fuel-types. if your engine drinks about 15 liter per 100 km you can save some money on long term duration. but i think that a hybrid-car with electric and gasoline engine is a bit more proof as the mod-car. but at least... the mod will would be cheaper as a new hybrid car ;)

I'm thinking in terms of if I added the HOD system to my taxi's would
we save much money? I'm almost tempted to try!

yes, if you're a professional driver you have much more distance. in this
case you can save more money as a casual driver 'course.
