• Sharpening blades

From Poindexter Fortran@9:91/4 to All on Mon Nov 30 06:29:00 2015
on them for $5 a blade. Some places charge by the inch now!

I don't know what they'd do with a combat knife, but it might be worth asking.

    asking.

I've heard having them done that way can harm the blade... I don't know for sure but I'm taking my pocket knife to a friend of mine Wednesday who's going to sharpen it with a stone and strop and show me how to keep it nice.

I'll ask him why a machine sharpen isn't any good if you want? Then at least
we'll have something to discuss. ;)

Sur La Table does them on a stone. Quite well, in fact.

It's good to know friends who can pass on the skills needed to sharpen knifes. I still know such a person, from my days working at the fire department in the 80's and 90's. Ted Porter, was more the happy to bring his stones to work with him. His grandfater showed his Dad, who passed on those skills to Ted.. then on
to the rest of us. This reminds me of an episode of Hillbilly Blood. The local
Knife makers of Cold Mountain, NC. would barder and trade just about anything in the local scrap yard for old metal. Saw blades that where scraped made perfect homemade knifes. Reference (White bone knifes) on youtube, how to make a knife handle step by step. Anyway, these guys made some awesome knifes that they sold to the local Fire Department. If intersted in (forging homemade knifes hillbilly blood) watch it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82K7DrxaYGo

Great! We don't have Sur La Table's around here so I wasn't aware,
one always assumes a box store does things the fastest way possible
    to maximize profit.

    My apologies.

I'm going this morning for coffee and a lesson. ;) Looking forward to
learning something new that with luck I can also pass on.
