When I get my licence back and my antennas set up i'll have a go at
contacting you via IRLP :) I didn't get much use of IRLP back then so I'm
keen to get into it now.

    Do you use eQSL?

Cool. I'll have to fix my node. ;)

    Do you use eQSL?

Haven't used it for 10 years or more. :) I'm not normally the QSL type. ;)

    No worries.

Hmm, not quite sure what that's in reference to.

    Or just use CHiRP. :D

But yeah a lot of user interfaces leave a lot to be desired. :)

I resorted to using the radio clone software to add in all the
    frequencies I needed. Much easier!!!!

    That works! :)

Hmm, not quite sure what that's in reference to.

At how complicated manuals for ham radio gear are lol.

    You would think it should be simple to add a memory entry;

    1) frequency
    2) offset
    4) tone
    4) name

But no. You've got to set the frequency in vfo mode, go into the main
menu to set the offset and tone, enable offset then tone, go into the
memory mode add a new entry, select memory bank, add name, save the
    memory entry.

I've got to go into main menu to set offset and tone every time I want to
add those to a memory entry...

    They overcomplicate the whole thing!!!

    No worries.

I'm pretty sure ham radio user manuals were written by scientists to
give to aliens in the event of an alien encounter to show how complex

I was impressed with how another Ham had His TS-520 XCRV mounted to the floorboard of his car with a 7 Inch (Barn Door) Hinge and a piece of
metal attached to the bottom of his Rig.

So I bought a TS-520S that was being sold in the early 1970's.

He helped me get the Pin out of a Hinge and put the larger half of it on
    a piece of metal.

We pulled My Rig out of its case and a attached the metal plate as He had
    on His TS-520.

My TS-520S didn't have the DC to DC Convertor Box on its back as His
TS-520 had, so I bought a Kenwood DS-1A and Soldered the Wires from it to places on the TS-520S's Power Transformer so I could use it -..-. MOBILE.

I forgot to mention, each end of that larger Hinge half is threaded so
Homemade Bolts can be screwed on each side to fit into the smaller
Hinge part placed on the floorboard of the car when I wanted to go Mobile
    with the TS-520S back then.

A socket wrench is used to tighten the 2 Bolts making it slightly harder
for a thief to swipe the rig from the car (unless they carry a socket wrench with them).
When the Rig was in the car I kept a towel over it when the car was parked.

The Homemade Bolts are made of Threaded Stock that some of the Threads
were ground off to fit inside the smaller Hinge part.

My Friend (Bruce WA4DYL sk) put two nuts on the threaded end, He also
drilled a small hole through the endmost nut AND through the Threaded
Stock & put a Pin through the hole to keep that Nut from coming off.

Now here is My (on Topic) Comment about how Ham Radio Users Manuals
    are written:

I wanted to keep the A.C. Wire that came with the TS-520S in the Shack.

So I bought a 12-pin Cinch-Jones (type) Connector and soldered a piece of
A.C. Line Cord to it, so if I wanted to run the Rig on A.C. somewhere while
I was away from the home QTH, I could.

When I began wiring it, I noticed the Pin (Terminal) Numbers on the
Cinch-Jones Connector were numbered different to what the Numbers was shown
on the Kenwood Schematic, so I put the wires to the "physical connections"
as shown on the Schematic Diagram in the back of the Operating Manual.

Some Months/Years later I read a magazine article (in QST?) about people
having problems with their Kenwood gear because they wired up the 12-pin connector according to THE PIN NUMBERS not the physical locations on the connector they were using.

At least that time "Ed Did It" correctly and got to run the TS-520S /Mobile
AND on A.C. when away from the Ham Shack.

Sounds pretty impressive. Unfortunately, the verbosity interfered with my ability to follow the description. Didn't help that I'm not familiar with some of the specific parts. :(
