Yep, you're getting out. Apologies for propagation delays, I had a

Never mind "Do you, Sysop...take this BBS, to be your lawfully wedded spouse??". <G>
Or as we can relate to...
"Do you, Ham, take Radio, to be your lawfully wedded spouse??". <G>
For me, it's both...I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Originally, both were in bedroom...what a way to get "doubly screwed". <G>
What's more frustrating on the ham radio nets for me now, is these stations who will NOT pay attention to, or follow net protocol (never
mind directions of Net Control). They think it's the ultimate
crime/sin, etc. if they are not the first one to checkin to a net (net control is #1 on the log regardless), if they're not in the first group
of checkins, or if they miss a net. I've observed it on RF and VoIP.
For me personally, if I can't run a net where I'm scheduled to be Net Control, due to weather, internet, health, or other issues, I try to
get a replacement. But, if it's for a regular "bean for the count checkin", if I miss that net, "it's no big deal". Some days (and
nights), I don't feel like doing much with the BBS, and/or ham radio.
Yet, when you tell folks that there are other things in life besides BBSing and Ham Radio (never mind Facebook), they look at you like
you've gone mad!! :P
"Do you, Ham, take Radio, to be your lawfully wedded spouse??". <G>
LOL, it can be a bit like that, though oddly enough, more of my recreational TL>time is dedicated to sport (actually participating, not watching) than ham TL>radio and BBSing put together! :D But then again, I've always been a bit TL>weird. LOL
Yeah, that is annoying. When the SO-35 parrot (simplex) repeater was active TL>around the year 2000, I actually got more contacts by waiting until the last TL>few seconds of an uplink window, after the rush to be first was over. :)
Yeah mostly the same here. The main exception is the local club net, becaus TL>IF I check in, I am mobile and only have a few minutes to take part. :)

All of us need some wierdness in our lives. It reminds me of the
photo on Facebook where this young cat is tilting his head to the side, with his tongue sticking out. His "father" growls "Takes after his mother". LOL
When Milt, K9QZI, of the Illinois D-Star Net (I got to meet him at
the Huntsville Hamfest last year), had a problem with the DPlusReport,
and said "I can only get checkins one at a time" (for most, but not all D-Star Nets, you "quick key" to checkin). So, I decided to work on the
BBS in the background, while the crowd thinned out.

IF I check in, I am mobile and only have a few minutes to take part. :)
I do early checkins on the nets I run, either D-Star or D-Rats...spending more time on those than Echolink anymore. What I like with the digital modes is that when you key up, your callsign shows up...you can't hide!! Now, on Echolink, if they're keying in as a
single user node, you see their callsign...but, if they're on a link, repeater, or IRLP, unless they announce their callsign, you have no
idea who they are.
LOL, but it is true. Reminds me of the excellent write up of what a ham is
that came out of the US nearly 100 years ago...
"The Amateur is balanced". :)
Yep, from "The Amateurs Code".
Admittedly, I believe in balance in my diet...balanced in the belly...and in the buttocks. <BG>
LOL, well, for me, a contest is some form of sport, which involves a lot of TL>running around somewhere. :D Speed is measured in metres/second, as often a TL>bits/second. :)

That works. :)
True, but all have a place. :)

This is true...but, the technology has gotten so daunting, that it's almost dizzying.

Besides doing the nets and VE testing with ham radio, I also am
involved with square dancing (more "offline than online"), and of
course, with the BBS. I can switch hobbies to avoid burnout, but I try
not to overdo it with any one of them.
I have noticed that if I try to work on the BBS when I'm tired (like right now <BG>), I'm asking for trouble. So, after I finish the QWK packet, it's nap time before the nets, and dinner. I eat one big meal a day (usually lunch), then have a light dinner. It's rare that I eat breakfast. But, after all, H.A.M. stands for "Have Another Meal" (hi
hi). If we're not talking about the hobby on the air, we're talking
about FOOD.

In the meantime my HackRF SDR also arrived - yippee.
Thanks Daryl. So why the switch to Synchronet?
The FIDONet tosser, VFIDO, kept generating MSGID fields that caused other BBS's (especially Synchronet) to DELETE most all posts as duplicates.
But, Synchronet also allows me to run non-fossil doors, without a special workaround...especially the DreamNet doors by Andy Stewart and
I did figure out how to get a program to run under Synchronet with the Doorway program (originally done by Marshall Dudley, now done by Mike Ehlert). This is mainly with the Today In History program, originally
done by Patrick Kincaid. Instead of its default event files, I set up things for:
Another reason for the switch is that it automates QWK Networking,
where I don't have to poll each system. However, I may have to switch FIDONet hubs...the system uses ZIP format, but it's recognized by PKZIP/PKUNZIP, and NOT by ZIP/UNZIP. So, I'm losing a ton of FIDONet Echomail.

That's a good reason.
That is something I noticed when I switched from Synchronet to Mystic. I BP>ended up having to run most of my doors on my Linux system via a telnet door BP>from my main board. It's a bit of a pain, but I'm pretty much the only one BP>using the doors anyway...
That's awesome. I was wondering where you got all of those to post. :) I BP>really like the puns... 'Cause I'm such a punny guy.
That's interesting. I guess I was under the assumption that ZIP/UNZIP would BP>recognize the PKware versions...

I have been working on other projects here in the shack, running Cat 5e and 6 and preparing for the installation of my radios. I provide a
backup feed for the local Club's Internet (DSTAR, DMR, Packet BBS,
etc.) and the Club has installed a (currently) 30 foot tower with a 3
foot dish pointing to a hilltop to the north. Because of my location,
they are likely to put up more dishes to provide backup Internet to additonal mountain tops. They are planning to increase the height to 50 feet.
At least the weather has cooled down. About 10 days ago, for nearly 10 days, the temperature was hovering between 108 and 112 F. Today it is projected to be 103. Afterall it is July.
Also on the way is a SharkRF OpenSpot, which will give me access to D-STAR, DMR and Fusion networks.

Several systems have had problems with that lately...you can't
connect to a reflector, or it displays incorrect information.
It could be the way their rig is configured with it, but I don't
know.
I know the DV4Mini had audio issues at some stage. I went for the OpenSpot,
Daryl Stout wrote to TONY LANGDON <=-
I had looked at the WinDV setup, as the dongle with it would allow connections to the XRF Reflectors on D-Star. The original DV Dongle,
and the DV Tool software (the latter from Robin Cutcliffe, AA4RC), does NOT allow access to the XRF Reflectors.
At the time, many of the nets at www.dstarinfo.com had out of date information, because those who originally supplied the data, weren't supplying updates to Ed, WA4YIH. So, that's why I started a new file
for D-Star and D-Rats Nets...but of the modes I use, D-Star and D-Rats
are the ones that I use the most...because when you transmit, your callsign shows up -- you can NOT hide on D-Star.
Tony Langdon wrote to Ray Quinn <=-
Some things happening here too. Just purchased an OpenSpot, so I can actually use DMR here (other than talking to myself ;) ). Thinking of
buying a MMDVM and building a multimode analog/digital repeater.
Probably need to throw an Arduino into the mix to manage the sharing of the radio channel. I have a Pi-TNC on the way, to play with packet
radio again. I'm going to setup a VHF node on packet and run IP over
AX.25. I have a 44 net gateway operational here. Not expecting too
many users, it's one of those exercises in playing around. :)

1) Delete the cookies from your web browsing. Upon doing so, you'd hear the sound effect "Yum! Yum! Yum! Cookie!".
2) Empty the Recycle Bin, and you'd hear the sound effect of a flushing toilet.
There may even be a file which will do the toilet flush for the
emptying of the recycle bin, and change the icon of it to a toilet.

We had some thunder storms blow through yesterday and last night with mostly dry lightning. It is still cloudy with the expected temperature around 103F with high humidity. Yucky!

Or is it adding additional empty messages?
