    Hi all.

First of all, welcome to the VKRadio study echo. This is where to come for help with preparing for your exam, or to offer resources that could help
    thers.

To start the ball rolling, here's some that I know of:

If you're in Australia and considering getting (or upgrading) your amateur licence, the Radio and Electronics school offers online courses. For more information, visit their website.

    http://www.res.net.au/

From the Wireless Institute of Australia, information on each licence class and practice exams.

    Foundation - http://www.wia.org.au/licenses/foundation/about/

    Standard - http://www.wia.org.au/licenses/standard/about/

    Advanced - http://www.wia.org.au/licenses/advanced/about/

There are also links to find a radio club from the above links, which is another way to help you get started.

For those in the US, some information from the American Radio Relay League on obtaining licence there.

Enjoy, and start your study. There's also 2 clubs down Geelong way - the Geelong Amateur Radio Club, and the Geelong Radio and Electronics Society. I have a good friend who's a member of both and treasurer of one of those clubs (GARC I think). So check them out, they're likely to offer a Foundation course at a minimum, and you will be able to sit an exam when the time comes.

I haven't been down that way since January, and that wasn't radio related, I had a state level athletics meet. Radio's just one of my interests. :-)

    Hey Vkjed!
Thanks for all the info. I actually live about a block away from the GARC so
I think I might head down there tomorrow night and say hello.
I also use to do athletics its been a while though! I was in Geelong
Guild down at Landy Field which I expect you have run on a few times :)
    Thanks again,
    Steve

You should do. If you happen to meet Russell VK3KRS, say hi, he's a good friend. Very quiet bloke though. More of a tech guy than a talker. :) Oh, while I think of it, there's a hamfest (kind of like a swap meet for radio gear) in Shepparton on Sunday. I'll be going over myself. Good place to meet people. I've got nothing on my shopping list, but I will be going up for the social side. :)

Only had the one meet there, in January this year for the Victorian Country Athletics Championships. Nice venue. :) It's not too late to get back into it. I'm 48, started athletics a year ago - first time in 30 years, though I was in pretty good shape from fire brigade competitions and other sports before then. :) I still do the fire comps too. :) These days, as in school, my speciality is sprinting. :)

    Hey Vk3jed,
Just been down to the GARC, great bunch of blokes! Really enjoyed it, interesting stuff. I met Russell too, nice guy! And I now have my foundation manual to study up on :)
I wish I could make it to Shepparton on Sunday but my daughter is having friends over this weekend as its her birthday so I sorta gotta be here. :P

Good work getting back into the Athletics! I do more medium distance running but I haven't done much lately since I moved back to Geelong, gotta get back into it!
    Thanks again mate,
    Steve

Cool, sounds like a successful venture all round. :-) Well, if you have any questions, this is the echo to ask in. I'd like to see some study related questions and answers in here. I'm also trying to keep it international in focus. Too many study groups have an American focus, which particularly affects the regulations.

Bummer about that, would have been good to meet up. I'm looking forward to Shepparton. Last hamfest I went to was Cranbourne in July, but I was on a tight timeline, and could only stay for an hour or so. Had to be back in Bendigo by 2 for a major opening event. :(

Yes. Well, we're unlikely to be up against each other, though I'm guessing we're in a similar age group. I'm a sprinter, won't be entering anything longer than 400m there. But it would be an excuse to catch up. :) Now's the time to hook up with one of the local clubs. ;)
